4-H Alberta Celebrates Outstanding Communication Skills at Provincial Competition

Lacombe, ABOn Saturday, April 5, 2025, 27 senior-aged 4-H Alberta Members gathered in Lacombe to showcase their public speaking and presentation skills at the highly anticipated 4-H Alberta Communications Competition. This annual event represents the culmination of hard work and progression through club, district, and regional levels.

Communication is a foundational skill in 4-H Alberta’s programming, and all members are required to prepare and deliver a speech or presentation annually. The provincial competition welcomes two qualifying members from each of the province’s seven regions, offering a platform for top-tier communicators to shine.

The day began with the Presentation Competition, where fourteen members delivered 8–10-minute researched presentations.

The afternoon featured the Public Speaking Competition, where fourteen members delivered 4–6-minute speeches based on a predetermined topic provided ten days in advance: β€œHow will the next generation contribute to the shaping of Alberta for their generation?”

Each competitor also participated in an impromptu round, selecting from three topics and delivering a 2–3-minute response.

Amelia M. will also go on to represent 4-H Alberta at the Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture Competition this fall at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.
