Sherry Howey’s passion for 4-H began at the age of 11 when she joined a sewing club. Her dedication to the program has only grown over the years, influencing her career choice as an educator and her continued involvement in the Alberta 4-H Program.
As a member, Sherry was known for her exceptional public speaking skills, representing the Peace region at the provincial level twice. She continues to inspire and guide other 4-H members in the art of public speaking, using her ability to engage audiences and make them reconsider their viewpoints.
Sherry’s leadership journey began when her eldest child turned nine, and she has been a leader or volunteer for various clubs ever since. Always encouraging her members and families to broaden their 4-H knowledge, she has been involved at all levels of the program: club leader, district president, regional planning committee member, Peace Regional Representative on the Alberta 4-H Council for 15 years, and serving as Vice President, Chair, and a member of the 4-H Foundation Board. Sherry has also represented Alberta at national events.
Instrumental in the Valleyview District’s video development and subsequent reward of the Gord Bamford fundraiser, Sherry’s leadership ensured a successful concert featuring 4-H throughout the evening, leaving concert-goers with a positive impression of the program.
Sherry’s passion for youth development and the 4-H motto have led her to foster members’ growth and potential. As an exceptional organizer and capable individual, she has made significant and outstanding impacts on the 4-H program in the Peace region and the province.
