- The Foundation looks for trustees with a wide range of skills. One or more of these key attributes are important:
- Training and experience in professions such as money management, accounting, legal, and or banking.
- Strong, broad connections in their local community or business network
- An eager desire to see 4-H succeed for the long term, and the confidence to reach out to others in support of 4-H Alberta’s fundraising endeavors
- Diverse and inclusive representation
- An understanding of the 4-H program, often through previous participation as member, volunteer or 4-H parent
The trustee’s role is specifically focused on the stewardship of all 4-H Alberta’s ongoing assets, ensuring they are being properly maintained and invested diligently.
The CEO and applicable staff work closely with both the Alberta 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees and the 4-H Alberta Board of Directors to ensure the successful continuation of 4-H in Alberta.
The Alberta 4-H Foundation is made up of volunteers, also called “Trustees”. Our trustees are dedicated, experienced, and responsible individuals who are committed to maintaining the financial longevity and sustainability of 4-H Alberta.
The Alberta 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is elected by 4-H Alberta’s Board of Directors.
(a) in conjunction with 4-H Alberta to promote, foster and maintain a high quality youth development program built on the premise promoted by 4-H Alberta of nurturing responsible, caring and contributing leaders who are committed to positively impacting their communities;
(b) support the curricular and extra-curricular activities of 4-H Alberta to advance youth education and leadership skills in various fields of human endeavor, including, without limitation, 4-H Alberta’s historical connection to agriculture
(c) provide by way of gift, sale, lease or otherwise, of money, equipment and capital assets to support activities and mission of 4-H Alberta;
(d) establish and maintain endowment funds for the benefit of 4-H Alberta and its membership;
(e) manage long-term assets allowing 4-H Alberta to advance the education of members who have participated in 4-H programs in Alberta through prizes, bursaries, fellowships, scholarships or otherwise
(f) provide strategic guidance relating to charitable giving, investments and long term capital plans in cooperation with 4-H Alberta and other interested persons or groups in such matters as are necessary or desirable and conducive to the attainment of the purposes of Alberta 4-H Foundation
(g) receive and accept long-term donations, contributions and gifts of any kind and nature whatsoever, whose financial support is anticipated to benefit 4-H Alberta and its membership for at least two years whether by way of bequest, devise, gift, contribution or otherwise, and to steward such donations, contributions and gifts in such a way as will, in the opinion of the Trustees of Alberta 4-H Foundation, serve the best interests of 4-H Alberta and its membership;
(h) Manage the long term assets, investments and funds, as required for the benefit of 4-H Alberta and its membership in accordance to policy.

Join Our Team
Currently, 4-H Alberta is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Area Coordinator—East Central Region to join our team on a full-time basis. This role will require travel in central Alberta and work-hour flexibility to meet the needs of a youth organization—evenings and some weekends.
Working in partnership with 4-H volunteers, 4-H Alberta Area Coordinators are hired to perform duties related to the administration and operation of a first-class, respected youth development program. The job is located in proximity to the East Central Region and will be home-based.
Reporting to a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this exciting role will see you carry out a range of responsibilities including:
- Ensuring the administration of the Regions’ clubs and community and assigned services and activities within the area.
- Acting as the primary consultant and mentor for volunteers in the Region through email, phone calls, and in person.
- Supporting the promotion, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of all 4-H area programs and events.
- Maintaining a healthy and productive partnership with area and club leadership and other 4-H Alberta staff.
- Providing coaching, mentoring, and training support to new clubs, leaders, and members.
- Ensuring programs designed for clubs and areas align with 4-H Alberta’s strategic direction.
- Ensuring the administration of assigned services and activities within the area.
- Working in harmony with the other Area Coordinators, Program Manager, Project and Resource Coordinators, and Clubs, Districts and the Region.
To qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 3 years of youth mentorship and leadership training experience, along with experience in volunteer and community engagement and a background in agriculture or experience with rural audiences. You will also need relevant post-secondary education and a broad understanding and appreciation for organization accreditation and leader screening programs. Experience in program administration and implementation is also required. Previous experience in outreach, extension, and teaching adult education is an asset, as is previous experience in a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization.
As our ideal candidate for this role, you will have a youth-first mentality that guides all of your decisions as well as excellent communication and leadership skills. Your collaborative spirit, ability to deliver on commitments, and passion for inclusivity will serve you well in this role as you lead and mentor volunteers in the delivery of 4-H programs and events.
