Currently, 4-H Alberta is seeking Summer Program Coordinators to join our team.

We are seeking eight summer students who can think on their feet and are creative and innovative. We require students to be able to work independently and within a team from time to time with limited supervision. Successful candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and will have the opportunity to learn how to supervise volunteers and delegates and evaluate the program(s).  4-H or camp experience is an asset.

The 4-H Alberta Summer Program Coordinator team will plan, coordinate and deliver 4-H Alberta summer programs for 4-H and community youth!

The Summer Program Coordinators will implement summer programs at the Alberta 4-H Centre and various locations across Alberta for 4-H Members and the community.  

 Six Summer Program Coordinator positions will begin May 2nd, 2022 and end August 26th, 2022

Two Summer Program Coordinator positions will begin June 27th and end August 26th, 2022

 Summer Program Coordinators will plan and prepare in May and June for summer programs beginning at the end of June and running until the end of August. This summer, all 4-H programming will follow Alberta Health Services requirements. Summer programs will include overnight camps, day programs, and possible virtual opportunities. Programs will be 1-6 days in length.

 

Responsibilities of 4-H Alberta Summer Program Coordinators

  • Develop, prepare, implement and evaluate summer programs
  • Oversee the daily operation of the program
  • Mentor and Supervise volunteer Youth Leaders
  • Work with fellow 4-H Alberta staff to successfully implement 4-H Alberta summer programs
  • Conduct first aid and monitor the wellbeing of delegates at the programs
  • Collaborate with team members and to manage any conflict and disciplinary issues (take the lead)
  • Monitor safety and all procedures during the implementation of the program
  • Ensure each program is being followed (implementing the agreed upon activities)
  • Prepare an evaluation and summary of each program including an overview of camp, Youth Leader evaluations, accident reports, health logs, delegate feedback, etc.
  • During July and August each Program Coordinator will have the opportunity to be a program lead
  • Required consecutive overnight stays and travel
  • Program delegates may include Youth of all ages and adults
  • Assist with programming needs at the Alberta 4-H Centre through May and June
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Position Requirements

  • Completed at least one year post-secondary education
  • Class 5 Alberta Drivers’ License and obtain a Driver’s Abstract
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Provide a Criminal Record with a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status and/or negative test results may be required as per the Alberta Government.

Positions require  high energy, excellent leadership skills and the ability to have fun!  In addition, successful candidates must be dependable, mature and able to work independently and as a team member.

Preference for (not required): 

  • National Lifeguard certification is an asset 
  • Experience working with Youth

 

Specifications 

  • Wages will be based on a daily rate, during planning and while at programs, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Accommodation and food provided when at a program
  • Position Headquarters and office space at the Alberta 4-H Centre, Westerose, AB
  • Living accommodation can be provided at the Alberta 4-H Centre
  • Training is included and required
  • Start Date: May 2, 2022 (four-month position) or June 27, 2022 (two-month position)
  • End Date: August 27, 2021

Please note all successful applicants will be required to follow all Alberta Health Services requirements that are in place for the safety of themselves, participants and fellow staff. Position duties may change due to AHS requirements. During the planning stages work from home may be required.
