Participation
All 4-H members who register in the 4-H Alberta Sheep Show are automatically entered into the following five competition areas:
- Marketing/Sales Talk: Completed at home before attending the show. Topics will be available on May 20th and are due June 6th.
- Multi-Species Judging: This is a required 4-H competition! All members are automatically entered in the appropriate age category. Members compete as individuals and stay with their assigned groups.
- Sheep Trimming: You are required to bring your own lamb for the trimming. If you can NOT find one, please talk to one of the committee members. All competitors will be given 30 minutes to trim.
- Costume Class: Although the costume class is not part of the grand aggregate calculations, the 4-H Alberta Sheep Show Committee encourages all sheep project members to participate in the costume class, which will take place on Saturday.
- Ram Lamb-O-Rama Class: Your chance to showcase your Ram Lamb at Foot. A fun opportunity to see the best Ram Lambs. This is a volunteer entry but you need to enter on the entry form when completing your entry. Entry fee of $5.00, will not be eligible for aggregate standings.
- Showmanship: Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors will compete separately. The top two in each age category will advance to compete for overall Grand and Reserve Champion Showmanship.
- Show Team Judging: For the show team sheep judging component of the show, members will consist of teams of two members, the team will be judged on their ability to work the show ring and judge a Class.
- 4-H Sheep Learning: Learn about topics that relate to our sheep industry. Past learning modules included – dystocia, feet trimming, feed rations, market lamb selection.
- 4-H Sheep Flock Show & Showcase: A massed gathering of all the flocks in one ring where grand and reserve are selected. Beef and Sheep members alike help the flock owner show their flocks. It is an awe-inspiring event to witness and an event that participants will remember for their lifetime.
- Conformation Competition: Beyond skill-building workshops, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your prized project animal in a series of conformation classes. It’s a chance to see where your project stands among peers and receive feedback from seasoned professionals.
